My Classes
Thursday classes
I will be teaching in weekly series on Thursday afternoons, with a several-weeks break in between each series. Each series will be named with body idioms such as "All Ears" or "See Eye to Eye" or "Keep Your Chin Up.” This does not mean we will be sticking to body parts in our movements. After all, "the shin bone is connected to the thigh bone, etc.” and we are surprisingly complicated compared to what comprises our skeleton and flesh. Instead, we will work with themes around ideas, physical structures, and hopefully, the ways we might have embodied the concepts that inspire the phrase. My next Thursday series will be: RibEye November 7 - December 19 Thursdays 2-3 p.m. MT 6 lessons (no class on Thanksgiving) "RibEye” is the next 6-week series in the body idiom experiment for this year. The theme for our next Thursday segment, RibEye, came to me through a semi-dream state. I tried to shrug it off as too evocative of a piece of meat, but it has staying power, and my own movement explorations have been enriched ever since it came to me. The moldable, malleable, reactive ribs and the organs they protect have a central part in organized and pleasurable movement. So do the eyes! I have been curious about how the use of our eyes direct, hinder, or even elicit certain responses through the thorax. And vice versa. As infants, we direct our gaze to objects of desire or alarm, setting off a chain of movement through the head, neck, spine, ribs, and pelvis, not to mention neurotransmitters, saliva, and heart.
